An old-time Manhattan favorite, Gallagher’s Steakhouse is now a tradition-in-the-making at New York-New York Hotel and Casino. The old-fashioned steakhouse has a special beef aging room that is visible to passers by, drawing in meat-lovers as they spot the delicious cuts of meat just waiting to be eaten. The dry-aging really gives the steaks a delicious flavor, but even better than that is the flavor of décor in the dining area. Black and white photos of days-gone-by cover the walls. There are pictures of everyone from old baseball players to the vaudevillian comedian that the place is named after (Edward Gallagher, from the famous duo Ghallager and Shean). Besides the pictures, however, the dining room is decorated with simple elegance including white linens and tablecloths just like you’d expect from an upscale steakhouse.
The original Gallagher’s opened in 1927 as a speakeasy and although the drinks are still delicious and the bar is always crowded, the real draw to this place is the food. They serve everything from steaks, to chops, to seafood, to hometown favorites like cobblers and baked potatoes. Old Vegas favorites like Clams Casino are among the favorite seafood dishes here. Start your meal with a grilled Portobello napoleon, shrimp scampi, king crab cocktail, or some simple bruschetta. For your main course, try the Colorado lamb chops, cowboy rib-eye steak, queen cut prime rib, and Alaskan king crab legs. Fresh sides include jumbo steak fries, four cheese macaroni, buttermilk breaded onion rings, sautéed green beans, and creamed spinach. After hours the bar gets full and lively. In fact, Gallagher’s happens to be one of the best places in town to come and meet people in a friendly atmosphere. The drink of choice at this bar is the classic martini with exactly three olives. However, they serve a full liquor bar with plenty of choices and an entire list of delicious signature cocktails. |
